Here's what I want to do with my blog in tandem with my podcast. Essentially I want to create a media board and create something that doesn't distract from my podcast but gives some context to what I'm talking about. I'm going to be honest with you all, I miss my blog; it was a lot of fun for me, but I said that I would be doing podcasting. So, I can't really back down. Maybe I could podcast about books!
With this podcast, I mainly talk about shorthand, skiing, and speech and drama. I really need to sit down and reflect on how I'm going to do this project because this podcast did not reach my expectation. It's a lot easier writing than speaking for me, yet after all, that was the point, to obtain a sort of vocal eloquence. Next week I'm doing a blog with a special guest, Brandon Mitchell should be easier.
There is some difficulty converting this to MP3, but I should figure it out sooner or later.
It's done. I recommend doing other stuff while listening, after all, that's why podcasts have become so popular, their portability. You should be able to even download it if you want to.
| I don't know what the proper method is to learn the words and phrases of Teeline. I'm thinking it may be best to just crank these out with repetition. |
| I didn't take any pics when I went cross-country skiing last Monday, but I did force my mom to take some during Christmas break. |
Near the end, I spent some time talking about this video. I didn't talk about it in full, but I still talked about.
MetaBlog: MetaPodcast soon . . . maybe? I really need to find my footing first though. I find myself disappointed with the current end product. Maybe I should listen to some monologue podcasts and see how they do it. Also, need to practice my general knowledge of how to utilize GarageBand effectively for podcasting.
I realize in the podcast I was going to talk about books, but then didn't, sorry. I know you must've been really hyped.

Fixed the comments, sorry Kyle, I'll reupload yours.
ReplyDeleteKyle Henning:
ReplyDeleteOut of curiosity, I know your podcast was 14 minutes long, but how long did it take you to produce it?
Anyways, I agree with you. Your podcasts could use some work, but so could my 3D models. I wouldn't expect your first go at podcasting to be on par with people who podcast as a career. I think that those guys have spent many frustrating hours trying to perfect their podcasts; whether that's their voice, content, etc.
I have noticed some popular trends among podcasters when it comes to content. First, you can always do the classic myth/conspiracy theory debunking. Or, you can do something akin to How Stuff Works/the latest news in the science and tech world. Possibly even a economics crash course segment would be interesting, and it would serve the dual purpose of filling the void left by....
If none of those sound appealing I'll continue to rack my brain for ideas.
This first podcast took roughly four hours. Now, that wasn't recording or anything, it was mainly just applying the software to my podcast and importing the music. I originally had a podcast that was uploaded before this actually but I couldn't convince myself that it was passable, so I went and redid some things.
DeleteAn economics crash course Kyle? Sounds fun. I was originally for this podcast just going to click random on Wikipedia and then, whatever it gives me, do a podcast about the subject no matter how petty it is. For instance, I just tried that right now and I got an article about Bikówek, an administrative district in Poland. I could somehow figure how to do a podcast about that, but that would be such a shallow topic that I would have to be fairly creative in how I can incorporate that into a podcast.
Accidentally pressed enter, if I ever do a more of an expository podcast than I would probably want to do it in the way of RadioLab's podcasts, but that would take a significant amount of time.
DeleteIt seems that your comment was cutoff Kyle, sorry. I've taken steps to fix my comment section, I simply flipped a switch I shouldn't have.
Thanks for the feedback Kyle, I truly appreciate it.
Your pace at which you talk is very good, I also enjoyed the sound effects as well. I was listening to this blog as I made my 2.3 blog post and it made the whole experience a lot more enjoyable. The golf course is one the more dangerous places to XC Ski in the world due to the high frequency of unleashed dogs. I cant wait to listen your next podcast. Maybe I should learn shorthand as well so my teachers can never know what i'm writing but since it looks so cool they will have to assume its right and give me an A+.
ReplyDeleteAh yes Steven I already cheated (kind of) using shorthand. It was the logical fallacies open note quiz. I had my notebook filled to the brim with logical fallacies and Mrs. Crews never caught thinking that it was just hieroglyphics. Of course, I couldn't read it without staring at it for fifty seconds so it didn't really help, but hey, it's a proof of concept.
DeleteAlso, Steven the golf course can be a scary place, one time I saw a deer and I DIDN'T know what to do. He was just staring at me. Luckily I scared him off by acting big and stomping my skis to scare him.
One of your goals was no dead air or uhms, etc., and you did an excellent job with that and your pacing. BTW, I did read your entry about your mind wandering when I am speaking. It happens to everyone and is something to consider as you are recording your podcast. How do you keep people's attention from wandering or bring it back during the 15 minutes?
ReplyDeleteI could keep interest by making it more segmented, by varying my voice, and by having special guests and sound effects. It's a lot harder than it sounds though. I think I just need to plan out certain bits and go over them until it is perfect, but in this podcast I did numerous retakes and the final product still wasn't spectacular. Still, I really don't want to create a script. I know I will just follow that and it will end up sounding forced and unnatural. That will definitely lose people's interest.
DeleteWith time eventually I will figure out to meet all of my expectations with the podcast. Already, I believe my recent podcast is a massive improvement when compared to this podcast.
